A trip to Carrefour

First things first: for those of you in severe need of a Benjamin fix, go to our dropshots website for some more uploaded videos of Ben.

Here's a brief photo tour of our Saturday trip to the grocery store. Normally we go to the HyperChampion in Ferney (we call it the Heeper Jeepers), but today we stopped by the Carrefour in Segny after seeing the place for rent in Versonnex. Both Heeper Jeepers and Carrefour are like SuperTargets, a little bit of everything. But can you identify what are the differences?

Well, first of all, all the signs are in French. It's like they have a different word for everything!

Here's a picture of Kathy-Bun with Ben-bun in the cart. Guess you don't see so many men in blue jumpers back in the States...also, all the grocery carts are chained together in the parking lot, and can only be liberated by sticking a 1 euro coin (2 CHF coin in Switzerland) in the handle. The coin is liberated in turn when you rechain the cart to the others.

Looks like a normal grocery aisle, doesn't it? But look closer: chips on the left...and hard liquor on the right! Interesting combination...

Bread is of course an absolute necessity and specialty in French stores. Of course, like Walmart back in the States, they take the place of your local boulangerie. Unlike Walmart, they aren't so darn cheap...

Not shown: the guy in the produce section whose sole purpose in life is to weigh your produce and put a price label on your plastic bag.

Also not shown: no grocery bags for free. You buy your own quite sturdy reinforced bags to carry groceries, to be reused over and over. Don't forget to grab some bags before you walk out of your house for a grocery trip! I think the system actually makes pretty good sense.
